With the Christmas holiday over, it may seem like the opportunity for blowout sales have passed, but that’s not the case for many online stores. Retailers need to clear out merchandise to make room for new products so now is the chance to stock up on items like clothing, exercise equipment, calendars and planners, toys and bedding. The next money-saving holiday merchants like to promote is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (MLK Day) which falls this year on Monday, January 18.
A Day of Remembrance – History of MLK Day
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a civil rights leader known for his teachings of love and equality during the civil rights movement. Dr. King frequently gave moving speeches. Among the most popular is his “I Have a Dream” address in 1963, which he presented in front of a quarter-million people in Washington D.C. After his death in 1968, the third Monday of January was nationally recognized as MLK Day to commemorate his legacy. Many people are given the day off so retailers use this as an opportunity for some holiday shopping.
